Colonoscopy

Postby stephenholmes » Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:26 am

Good afternoon everyone
I recently had a bowel scan and a large polyp was discovered
On Monday 27th June I am to undergo a colonoscopy which I am not looking forward to
I have been told I will have some sedation and pain relief for my Arthropathy in my spine
Kind regards Stephen

If you haven't had a colonoscopy before it's like a bad case of wind (as they blow you up).
Don't worry over it, the sedation is fairly strong and doesn't last long after they kick you out of theatre.

I've had 2 Stephen and the worse part is the moviprep, I could have been mistaken for a baboon if viewed nude from the rear after that stuff lol

Good afternoon T
I know what you mean by feeling blown up
Unfortunately when I had the bowel scan they couldn't remove the polyp
They said we will need you to have a colonoscopy because usually where there is one polyp there are others
They are going to remove those on Monday
Sunday is going to be spent on the throne :thinkin:
Kind regards Stephen

Good afternoon everyone
I have had my colonoscopy and large polyp removed
The surgeon had to use 5 clips as he said I had internal bleeding
I now have to rest up and wait for things to settle down
If the bleeding doesn't stop then I need to go to A and E fingers crossed everything will be fine
Kind regards Stephen

Good evening T
Thank you for your kind wishes
I have had a bowl of scotch broth for my tea
The nurses gave me tea and two rounds of toast on the ward
Taking the Movi Prep yesterday wasn't that great it tastes like salty lemonade as you already know
I found the best way to deal with it was chill it first and then swig it quickly by the glassful
I managed to drink one litre within an hour then a two hour break before the next litre
My chaser was white grape shloer which took the aftertaste away
I didn't get to bed until 2am running back and forth to the loo
Hopefully though the bleeding will cease and all will be fine
Kind regards Stephen

Good morning everyone
I attended hospital yesterday following a phone call to discuss the results
The polyp that was removed was malignant
I am now waiting to have a CT Scan and further tests to see if the cancer has spread?
The nurse said because I took advantage of the bowel cancer screening it has been detected early
She said this has been quietly growing inside you completely without symptoms for several years
Had I not undertaken screening it would have continued until it had reached an advanced stage
Kind regards Stephen

Good morning everyone
Yesterday I attended hospital to have the area of bowel tattooed prior to surgery at a later date
Unfortunately the male nurse who administered an enema was extremely rough and caused bleeding in my rectum
Consequently the surgeon could not locate the area of my bowel where the cancerous polyp was removed
I now have to go back to hospital within the next two weeks to have the procedure repeated
I was in considerable pain during the sigmoid examination which was done without mild sedation
When I receive a new appointment I am going to take movi prep as that is preferable to the ordeal yesterday
Kind regards Stephen

I can't understand why they didn't sedate you Stephen and the pain & bleeding is most likely caused by the damaged tissue being stretched. The endoscopy team should know full well you would be in pain during the procedure.
Same happened to me at my local hospital Stephen, they must have opened the valve on the gas/air too quickly and immediately put me in agony so they had to abandon the procedure.
I wasn't happy with the way they treated me so I asked to be dealt with by an out of town hospital and I was treated much better, I suffered no bleeding and pain was minimal.
