Registration to the forum closed

Postby Tobias » Tue Mar 21, 2017 10:10 am

I've had to close registration to the forum due to a full on sustained spam bot attack.
So if you know someone that wants to join then let me know their details via PM and I'll add them manually.

As I write the spam bots are still trying to register using different IP addresses, the number of guests shown in the "who's online" are nearly all spambots :-s

They are using infected servers and PCs Jeff, which tells me they have control of a large number of computers worldwide because the IP addresses keep changing to attempt registration and login.
Even if they join no-one sees what they post because all their posts are in a queue waiting to be approved by Admin, which of course don't get approved and the account gets deleted.
At the rate the bots create accounts it's easier to stop registration than keep deleting them.
Whether it's coincidence I dunno but the last high number of visitors which were bots was a year ago on 16th March

The last tw@ that did something like this ended up in jail with huge fines

These spam bots get everywhere.

Could you place a "I'm a human check box" on the sign up page to save you the hassle T?

This particular bot is intelligent SB it googles answers etc
it also gets past anti-virus as it keeps being updated to avoid detection, so if anyone clicks a link it posts they become infected and end up with a zombie PC that can be used to make attacks
its a ***kin' nightmare

Ah yes. I have read about these clever bots some time ago. Nothing to do with Russia I hope.

Maybe a retinal scanner would suit better lol.

Sometimes it appears to be of Russian origin but all the ads it posts are of USA websites and written in good English :oyes:
When they are actually from Russian IPs the spammed ads are in Russian.

One has wrote back saying 'their server has been compromised' :isay:

it isn't that the others don't care Jeff more likely because it's too much like hard work for their idle security team.

I've re-opened forum registration, to see how many bots can get through the altered security settings. :isay:
